Cambodia Trip part 2

Hello! So, now here’s a little insight to the temple visit in Cambodia for you.  On the 4th day of the trip,  we went to Siem Riep’s Temples. It was a very long ride on the bus there. We visited 3 temples what was guided by a tour guide. The pretty temples from ancient were the Angkor Wat temple, Angkor Thom Temple and the Bayon Temple.

Before we could tour these temples, each of us had to take an identity photo for our day pass! There were many tourists from Asian and Western countries like Korea, Japan and Australia.

The tickets

Angkor Wat Temple
At the entrance, there is a 7 headed snake bridge that signifies the 7 colors of the rainbow. The tiles at the Angkor Wat Temple were manually transported by elephants, boat or ox-carts. Additionally, it is also recognized internationally as a 5 points temple which is part of the 7 wonders of the world. It is a very huge temple with word carvings on the walls with its own different meanings.

Angkor Thom Temple

At the entrance of the Angkor Thom Temple, there were elephants waiting nearby to give tourists a slow tour of the scenic place. There are also many Chinese carvings on the walls of the temple that symbolizes their culture. There was a need for us to change to a mini bus to enter the temples as big vehicles were not appropriate for the type of roads available there. Furthermore, faces of their gods could be spotted at the sides of each temple so that people can pay respect to their gods anytime.

In Angkor Thom

Here's a plant we saw. Notice how each brick has two holes. It was used to transport the bricks from other countries into Camodia via elephant, ox-carts or boat. People of primitive age had to manually tug these huge bricks to build the temple. Imagine how much strength and man power was needed. Whoa!

Bayon Temple

Bayon Temple has many tree that are so gigantic that it is not commonly found anywhere in the world. However, the overall temple is much smaller as compared to the Angkor Wat Temple. The trees are so big that it is literally engulfing the temple slowly. There was also a small group of children at the temple who were performing to earn revenue for their survival. There were many other children who were persistent in selling their goods to the tourists (us included). It was heart-wrenching being unable to help them all. But there was a limit to what we could do. So, yeah :/

Area for prayers.

Do you know that inside these hollow structures, there will be an resounding hollow echo when you thump your chest? It's so cool! HAHA! if only we could record for you..

The experience to Cambodia revealed that Cambodia is culturally rich, unlike Singapore where we have some historical sites. Yup, so this sums up what we saw at the temples in Cambodia. What we went through was truly a memorable, priceless one. We hope that you’d be able to enjoy such a time too~
