Study trip to Iskandar - 11 Jun 2014

Earlier this month, we had 72 IIT students and 6 staff travel to Iskandar for a day trip to visit a company Celestica Electronics and the Malaysia Information Centre (IMIC). Amongst the students were 10 DFS juniors who went for the trip. Abigail, one of our 10 Juniors has written a reflection below to share with us a little more on what they did on the trip.

"This Wednesday, 11 June 2014, was probably another average weekday but it was the first time I went on a study trip with IIT School. The trip, which lasted for a day, took us around several flagship zones in Iskandar Malaysia. 
To start off, we arrived at Celestica Electronics where we were given a short talk which introduced us to the company.

Also, we had a tour to view the company’s manufacturing process. In addition, a tour around Flagship B showed us places like LegoLand, Educity and PineWood Iskandar Malaysia Studios. Besides this, we were given a talk by a staff at Iskandar Malaysia Information Centre which gave us more background and information about how Iskandar Malaysia is developing and working towards being a strong and sustainable metropolis of international standing.      

"Prior to the trip, I knew little about Iskandar Malaysia. Through the talks and tour, I have seen the developments and got to know how the Malaysian government is combining different facilities and services to attract investors. I am glad that I attended the trip which has exposed me to something new."

RSA Talk 2014

On the 7^th of March 2014, Friday, the executive chairman and vice-president of RSA, Arthur Coviellio, came to TP to share about the history of technology and how it will develop in the future. It was really amazing to know how much technology has developed throughout the years and improved the lives of everyone.

He even shared with us that in the near future, even the blind will be able to see due to the advancement of technology. This shows how technology can improve the lives of many people.

However, advancement of technology can also cause destruction to people’s lives and that is where cyber security comes in. To prevent malicious people from attacking people’s assets. The skills we learned, we can use it to do good or bad but if we used it to do good, it will greatly improve the lives of everyone hence we should always put our skills to good use.

We really thank Mr Arthur Coviellio to take his time to come and share with us and we would also like to thank the people who came and attend the talk. It was really a talk that should not be missed! 

ACE Certification Workshop 2014

On the 28^th February 2014 and 3^rd March 2014, we had the ACE Certification Workshop taught by the DFS seniors who have taken the ACE Certification. 23 people passed the test on 28^th February and 12 people passed on 3^rd March. However, there are a total of 56 people from DFS who are ACE Certified of which 23 are seniors and 33 are juniors. Congratulations to all of them.

ACE Certification is actually a free certification which is to be taken online. It is a 90 minutes test of 40 MCQ questions. However, the test have both theory and practical questions. The practical questions will make use of FTK, FTK Imager, Registry Viewer and PRTK to analyse a given image. However, other than FTK Imager, the other three tools need license and TP has the license. Hence, if anyone wants to take the certification, please let those people who are certified know or wait for the next workshop planned by the juniors who are certified.

Lastly, we would like to thank some people. First of all, we would like to thank Gerald who created a VM with all the tools installed for the ACE Certification. There were also a set of notes given to the students which was done by the first batch of seniors who took the ACE certification so thanks to all of them namely Cherri Chew, Crystal Tan, Jerlyn Peh, Kiki Yuen, Verbena Ong, Gerald Quek, Jordan Chong, Khairul Anwar and Tan Zhen Yong. We would also like to thank Derek, Charmine and Mr Lim for setting up the laptops for the instructors. Not to forget Ms Lock and Mr Seah for helping us to open the doors to SITSA Lab. Thanks to them or we would be stuck outside the lab. Last but not least, we would like to thank all the helpers for helping out in this workshop namely Charmine Kee, Siti Nur’ Aliah, Ashari Adnan, Derek Chan, Gerald Quek, Tan Zhen Yong and Verbena Ong and also thanks to all the students who attended the workshop during the holidays! Thanks everyone!

The 6^th All ‘Bout Security Seminar 2014 is here again! The theme “Emerging Cyber Threats, Defense & Response: Are You Prepared?” was selected to highlight the importance of adopting cyber security measures in an organization. 

The All ‘Bout Security Seminar, organised by students from Temasek Polytechnic’s Diploma in Cyber & Digital Security and Digital Forensics, is a student-driven initiative which seeks to promote overall awareness in Information Security through a series of talks conducted by industry professionals and experts.

TP Security Operations Center in the news

SOC in TP

Security Operations Center (SOC) is a centralised monitoring facilities within an organisation that deals with security issues at both a technical as well as operational level.

Together with IBM and EMC(giants in the IT industry), our school will setup 2 Security Operations Center that will provide monitoring and incidence managements services to our IT infrastructure. Students from Diploma in Cyber & Digital Security and Digital Forensics would have opportunities to be attached to this live learning environment to hone their IT Security skills.  Together with the CyberRange facilities in Center for Digital Security and Investigations, our students will have many opportunities to be exposed to real security incidence and learn to respond, manage and defend against them.

GovernmentWare 2013

Since 1991, each year the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Singapore will organise GovernmentWare (GovWare). This year, this InfoComm Security conference and exhibition was held from 1 to 3 October 2013 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

We are very proud to be invited to showcase one of our Final Year Project by Tan Zheng Yong, Jordon Chong & Kiki Yuen.  The project is title WebAnatomy.  It is a forensic web crawler that would allow a forensic investigator to search and archive websites for investigative purposes.
